الملخص:

This dissertation attempts to investigate the effectiveness of interactive teaching approach in teaching compound nouns to Syrian students. In this study, Jim Scrivener’s model of teaching vocabulary is used as a suggested application of Task-Based Instruction approach (TBI). Scrivener’s model is based on a number of interactive teaching methods, and the aim of this study is to test the efficiency of this model.

 

Two groups of students, experimental group and control group, participated in this study for the sake of comparison between the results in order to see whether and how Scrivener’s model of teaching is helping in developing the students’ learning of the new compound nouns.

 

The material used in this study is a group of 34 one-word and two-word compound nouns taken from the ninth grade English syllabus. In this study, the experimental group teaching sessions following Scrivener’s model and the control group did not take any teaching. The two groups were both tested before and after the study and the results were compared.

 

Results show that the experimental group’s learning of the new compound nouns is developed after studying these words following Scrivener’s model. These results support the previous literature that assures the effeciency of using TBI approach in teaching new words.
